The work Wells provided was maintenance but they did a very good job, checking beyond what was required. They offered more information for brakes and it was spot on. A nice touch for regular customers would be a waiver on the diagnostic test. It really bothers me to have to pay for the test when whatever it says results in how to fix the problem, for which I pay. Other than that I am completely satisfied with any and all work I have had done on my three cars at Wells. Mr. Salmon
Wells Automotive replied: The diagnostic scanner does not tell you what's wrong with the vehicle, only the system that is having the trouble. For example, if the engine is running lean (not enough gas), the computer may set an oxygen sensor code. The problem could be the oxygen sensor but could also be a vacuum leak, MAF sensor or fuel pump problem. The diagnostic charge is to determine the exact problem. We don't charge to retrieve codes, we charge to diagnose the system.

I have been bringing my car(s) to Wells since I moved into Anne Arundel County in the early '90s. I trust Charlie implicitly to do excellent mechanical work and to give trustworthy advice. The cost has not been cheap but has not been outrageous either and I don't mind paying when I can have the peace of mind that I am getting good advice/good work. I have been dismayed, however, in recent years by how "corporate" Wells seems to have gotten. When I bring my car in for an oil change/tire rotation I get the same sort of song and dance I expect to get when I go to Jiffy Lube. It's not that I ever feel I am cheated or misled, but I feel like they've lost that personal touch they had when they were at the smaller garage where I felt like they would give me the same advice they would give a family member: "This is what you need to keep your car running well, and you should probably think about doing this in about 20,000 miles or so, but you're fine for now." Now, I feel like they just go thro
Wells Automotive replied: I'm sorry that you feel that the quality of our customer care has declined. It is our intent to offer the best customer experience that we possible can. If you have a vehicle with over 100k miles, most times the "this repair needs to be perfomed soon" statement becomes "this repair needs to be performed now". We perform a free vehicle courtesy check on every oil change service that we perform and also on most vehicles that come in for repairs that do not include an oil change. We have not properly performed our job if you have a problem with your vehicle, related or unrelated to our repairs, shortly after it leaves our shop. I think Wells has the best service and love it! But the past two times when I paid over the phone, it wasn't clearly explained to me what was in the bill/what I was paying for. I also wouldn't mind Wells recommending service to me. For example, if I'm in for item A but you notice item B will need to be done soon, please tell me. I'd rather have everything done at once rather than keep coming in. But I do appreciate your good service!
